On Friday 28 January 2011, a group of 35 people gathered at Dan and Starla's home, fuelled by a shared passion of being Jesus to the city of Dubai. The call on our church has always been to do so in creative and innovative ways.

Jesus came to a dying world, to show us the true nature of a loving God. Wherever He went, people were saved, healed, set free, challenged, restored and most importantly: LOVED! Our heart is to be Jesus to the city of Dubai

Who we are…

  • We believe everyone belongs in family. City Lights is a diverse group of people who love Jesus, are on a journey led by the Holy Spirit and show JESUS to the community of Dubai in fresh and creative ways. This community has become our home away from home.

  • In the past the church was in the forefront of pioneering in the areas of art, business, music, education and more. Everyone has a creative spark inside of them placed there by the Creator of all things. God the Father has placed in each of us the ability to innovate and influence the spheres we are part of.

  • Let’s get real - we are all works in progress. Transformation begins in our own heart, through the power of the Holy Spirit. But we are called to transform more than just ourselves, we are called to transform cities. Be with Jesus, become like Jesus, do what Jesus did.

  • A surrendered life to Jesus is a heaven empowered life (Matthew 6:10, “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”) In a city driven by greed or fame or power, we are called to counter the culture with generosity, love, kindness, serving those around us etc

What we believe…

  • The Bible is God’s word to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it was inspired by God, the Bible is truth without any mixture of error and is completely relevant to our daily lives.

  • God has existed in relationship with Himself for all eternity. He exists as one substance in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Although each member of the Trinity serves different functions, they each possess equal power and authority.

  • God is great. He is all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present, unchanging, completely worthy of our trust and above all, holy. It is in Him that we live, move and exist. God is good. He is our Father. He is loving, compassionate and faithful to His people and His promises.

  • Jesus Christ is completely human and at the same time completely God. He is the only plan for bringing people back into a right relationship with God. He lived a perfect life so that He could be a substitution for us in satisfying God’s demands for perfection. He defeated death in His resurrection so that we can have life.

  • The Holy Spirit’s presence assures us of our relationship with Christ. He guides believers into all truth and exalts Christ. He convicts people of their sin, God’s righteousness and the coming judgement. He is our comforter. We believe in the gifts and fruit of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit empowers us to not only live a Christ honouring life, but to also walk in our gifts and calling as we go on mission.

  • Man was created to exist forever. He will exist either eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is hell. To be eternally in union with Him is heaven. Heaven and hell are places of eternal existence.

  • The blood of Jesus Christ shed on the cross provides the only way of salvation through the forgiveness of sin. Salvation occurs when people place their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for their sin. Salvation is a gift from God and it cannot be earned through our own efforts.

  • Jesus told His disciples to go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. The baptism is a public declaration of faith and discipleship, symbolising our death to sin and that we are raised to a new life in Christ. It’s the outward testimony of the inward change in a believer’s life and an act of obedience to Jesus.

Infant baptism is a religious tradition that is not mentioned in the Bible. We believe in baptism being an act of obedience as a result of accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.

Once you receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour, speak to your Community Group Leader about getting baptised.

  • The Church is a local community of baptised believers unified through faith in Christ. It is committed to the teachings of Christ and obeying all of His commands and it seeks to bring the gospel to the world. The church works together in love and unity, intent on the ultimate purpose of glorifying Christ.

  • At City Lights we do baby dedications, where parents can commit to raising their children in a godly and biblical way. We pray for the child and the family. This is a commitment to God and the community. It is worth noting that this is not an act of salvation, obedience or a form of baptism. Rather it is a reminder of the great family we are a part of and a display of our gratitude to God for the gift of children (Psalm 127:3).
